Science Based Targets (SBTs) for nature

Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) is a collaboration that helps companies set science-based climate and environmental targets.

SBTN released its first guidance, SBTs for Nature, for companies in 2020, which includes biodiversity along with freshwater, oceans, and land. The initiative is a collaboration between global organizations and academic institutions that collectively assist companies in developing methods and guidelines for setting biodiversity targets.

SBTs for Nature is still in the development phase, and SBTN launched the first release of the framework in 2023. IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute is part of the SBTN Corporate Engagement Program and is thus involved in developing SBTs for Nature ahead of its launch.

IVL also works to guide organizations in setting climate targets in accordance with SBTs and to support other key elements of strategic sustainability work.

Hire IVL for:

  • Mapping, measuring, and setting biodiversity targets in the value chain according to the SBTs for Nature method
  • Conducting a materiality assessment, prioritizing, and identifying parts of the value chain with a significant impact on biodiversity (hotspot analysis)
  • Training, advice, and support on the latest developments in the SBTs for Nature method
