Research and assignments for sustainable adaptation to a new climate

IVL conducts research to increase the knowledge and impact of climate change adaptation. By adapting communities and economies, making them more resilient to climate change, we can reduce the need for urgent and costly measures in the future, and contribute to long-term sustainable development. Climate change adaptation can also provide opportunities for innovation, economic growth and improved urban planning, which can benefit both current and future generations.

IVL offers expertise and research experience in climate change adaptation by way of strategic support and analyses, to help our clients and partners make important decisions and develop their operations and businesses.

Norrköping – best in Sweden at climate change adaptation

IVL's and Swedish Insurance's survey shows that Norrköping is this year's best municipality for climate change adaptation. The results also show that the rate of increase previously seen in climate change adaptation seems to have stopped.

Sustainable water supply on Gotland

Gotland has been affected by severe water shortages on several occasions, with Storsudret at the southernmost tip of the island being particularly hard hit. Since Storsudret is one of the places in Sweden that is most vulnerable to prolonged drought, the test bed was established there. The aim of the test bed is to make Storsudret self-sufficient in water, and to put Sweden and Gotland on the international map for cost-effective and sustainable water solutions.
